Bloodwork Services for Pets

In certain cases, it may be necessary to draw samples of your pet’s blood, as there are types of information about their health that can only be retrieved and assessed from blood samples. Obtaining blood samples are a routine part of a veterinary hospital’s activities, and you can rest assured that our skilled team will take every precaution to maintain your pet’s comfort and get results as soon as possible.

How does a veterinarian or technician take a blood sample from a dog/cat/pet?

Taking blood samples from pets is quite similar to taking samples from humans. A small needle is inserted into your pet’s vein to draw their blood. The entire process is usually over within a matter of seconds.

Do pets feel pain when their blood sample is taken?

Not at all. In fact, most pets feel very little to no discomfort during the procedure. They often do not need any type of sedation or pain relief before, during and after the sample-taking.

Which part of my dog’s/cat’s/pet’s body will the blood be taken from?

The exact location of where we will draw the blood varies. In dogs, necks and legs are common areas where blood can be taken from.

What are blood samples of pets used for?

Veterinary teams may need samples of your dog, cat or pet’s blood for a variety of reasons. Blood samples allow us to easily analyze your pet’s health in a minimally invasive and cost-effective way. Bloodwork, for example, can tell us if your pet is anemic, if they have certain kinds of infections, and can help assess if they are good candidates for certain surgeries/ procedures. These are just some of the many insights that we can retrieve from collecting blood samples.
